Way back in 2023, when Modes Media was still an inception on its way to being materialized, a trip to Spain was taken and the lovely city of Barcelona was visited. Of course, this magically coincided with the Skate Love festival and we couldn't have been more blessed and downright stoked.
Now that we're here (and our film photos are developed - stay tuned), we can't wait to share our experiences and those of pals who were also there.
Skate Love Festival & the Love Bowl Competition
Skate Love is an established international roller skating festival that's full of life. The experience includes DJed parties, skate sessions, masterclasses and more. It's an inclusive event where over 2,000 roller skaters from across the world join together in shared, fashionable passion.
In 2023, the festival lineup included a competition in a nearby skatepark for the second year in a row. Although the contest has not been held again, we’re glad to be able to look back at the memories from Mar Bella skatepark. It was certainly a core event for the early days of the aggressive roller skating scene. It brought so many folks from across the world together for the first time.
Crowds lined the fences of the skatepark to watch 37 skaters compete on their eight wheels. From wave bowls to deeeeeeeeep pool pockets, the Mar Bella skatepark is a unique and slightly tough park to skate. Nonetheless, skaters tore it up.
The Results
Judges included well known community members @octopolly @gabryssska__ and @thaisonwheels. After skaters demonstrated skill across the park, elegantly gracing each obstacle and piece of coping, judges were left with a difficult task. Upon some healthy deliberation time, winners in the Open and Pro category were announced and gifted well-deserved prizes.
