This year the annual Brooklyn Blade and Quad competitions, two contests that have become coveted in our East Coast skate community, are returning for the fourth time around.
The event that started it all at Sarges skatepark in 2022 has since grown. This year, the contest will take place at Ocean Hill skatepark for the second consecutive time. Not only do tri-state area skaters look forward to this contest each year, but folks from across the country and beyond often travel into New York City to compete as well.
This year's competitions are right around the corner. Let's take a chance to reminisce on the past and get pumped for the weekend!
"The obstacle was just something different to throw in the mix. I had seen it around in other edits and clips, so I wanted NY to have one."

"Either 360 soul or true makio."
Zack | @zacksavageee
"That I get to see everyone all at the same session which is rare."
Andy | @crxck_kills
"The best part of these events is the community - the energy of quad skaters getting together and celebrating each other is wonderful to witness, and when people push themselves outside of their comfort zones because of the energy and land new tricks it's incredible."
Silvia | @silvkam
"Best part of 2024 comp was finishing the box in time to have everyone go crazy and enjoy it. To me, it's always about having the most fun and bringing everyone together."
Francisco Herrera of
The Subawu Adventures | @subawu_adventures
"The best part was skating around NYC with friends from all over the world! We hit up LES the night before the competition, skated on the L train to get to Ocean Hill, and biked over the Brooklyn Bridge with our skates in baskets to skate Dumbo the next night."
Clara | @juicyjay2k
"Competing and winning alongside my friends and skate fam."
Q | @lady_blader
"The best part about Brooklyn Quad Comp 2024 is getting to see so many skaters (local and visitors!!) ripping in so many different styles!!!"
Jess | @sk8ssica
"Getting to shred and vibe with all the homies from all over!"
Zack | @zacksavageee
"To be able to find skaters of different levels and styles in one place. Enjoy the united community in the same space."
Moonsunwitch | @moonsunwitch_
"I always get a little nervous at first because of the skill and talent that is about to unfold and I’m scared I’m going to miss something amazing. But, that’s why there are multiple judges. I love being able to keep an unbiased mindset and see skaters evolve throughout their runs."

Yerrr...
What does organizing the Brooklyn Competitions mean to you?
It means the world that I can bring both communities together (Quad & Blades) to enjoy a day of comradery, friendship and enjoy the wheels that keep us free.
Describe a highlight from 2024.
Too many highlights - but, one of the best memories is at the after party where I get to reward the skaters for all the hard work they put in during the day.
What does organizing the contest look like?
The BBC organizing process is pretty simple: provide a space and activities that are appropriate for both communities to thrive and excel at their fullest capacity while enjoying themselves in the process. (The individual details are too many to name!)
What is your hope for the future of Brooklyn Blade competitions?
My hopes are to create different and relevant activities every year.
- Frederick BBC Organizer.

Words from...
Has the perfect mix of street and transition. I love the mix of obstacles for all levels. The park has amazing flow for a competition setting. I’m super excited to see what skaters are going to do this year.
A park with different heights and levels, where creativity had to be present, the level of difficulty of the obstacles was perfect.
I would say it’s got an open layout with something for everyone to skate! There’s bank to ledge, out ledge, regular ledge, a-frame, a-frame with a gap, a bunch of quarters, and a flat round rail (that i can remember) and I cant wait to skate it again this year.
Ocean Hill is SMOOTH, flowy, and my ideal mix of street features and transition.
Great park for a competition.
Thanks for reminiscing with us!
