An interview between Luke Naylor and Modes Media ahead of the Crowder Power 4 rollerblading competition.
Where are you from? If traveling for the comp, what does your trip look like?
I am from Detroit. My travel is catching a Delta flight to Raleigh. It's an easy one, the flight is just under 2 hours.
Do you compete often? Do you hold any other titles?
Yeah I try to get out and go to as many comps as I can. I've won Motortown Classic, Windy City Riot, Delta City Open, TCTBO, Bittercold Showdown, and now Crowder Power.
Describe how your skating has evolved in the last year:
My skating has become more refined this past year. I try to skate spots that are new to me and are practical to skate. If I am reaching too much I usually just let it go and skate something that makes more sense instead.
What is one trick you love to do?
I love a good ole topsoul.
Do you have a trick you're working on landing?
Not really, I try to keep it fresh and let things happen in the moment.
Tell us about your current skate setup:
Currently skating Standard Omni V2. I use intuition liners, haunted wheels, and create originals and set up anti rocker. I recently got some bone Swiss ceramic bearings and they kick ass.
How do you prep for competitions ahead of time?
I actually don’t really prep for contests, I like to let the day happen naturally, if I'm feeling the course and skate well that's usually a sign that I will do well. I'm not big on training or anything like that.
Do you have any day-of comp rituals?
Not really, I try to drink water and eat a couple of bananas if I can.
How would you describe the atmosphere at Crowder Powder?
Crowder is sick, it's a big session at this huge concrete park. The place is so big that each area is a separate sesh. I like this because you can skate the whole time, even while the contest is going down. It reminds me of Powwow.
What did it feel like to win last year?
Winning last year was great. I just got on Standard and it was my first trip with the boys, the vibes were high and we had fun.
Who’s your biggest supporter going into the competition?
My biggest supporters would be my friends and family. Shoutout Law and the boys for holding me down. Also shoutout to my girlfriend Olivia and our dog Kova for loving me unconditionally.
Are you ready to defend your title?
Yeah I'm down to throw down this year. Looking forward to seeing everyone and skating some new stuff on the course. Thanks for hitting me up, peace!
