The Bite of Nostalgia You Needed: Quad Power

Take a walk back in time with us. The year is 2024. Only two years ago? Feels both longer and shorter. Must be one of those weird timewarp things since the pandemic-boom on skates. Anyways, let’s set the scene…

It’s April and the Modes Media team is traveling down from New Jersey to North Carolina to support a set of competitions. While the air in Jersey is crisp, damp and filled with rain droplets, our travels down South brought us to a new environment. On the way down, we made a pitstop on the border of Delaware and Maryland to visit Ryan’s old friend from high school and grab some free subs from none other than Jersey Mike’s. The irony is we don’t go to JMike’s when we're home, as the locals call it, and we're from Jersey!

Back to the scene. . .

It was the team’s first time in North Carolina. We didn’t quite know what to expect and it was much warmer than the days we left from. We were especially stoked to be supporting events on the East Coast and happy to sponsor the Quad Power Competition. Excited to see what the weekend had to offer and after many hours of travel, we spent our first night getting into our accommodations and preparing for a full media day ahead!

Saturday brings us to competition day. We’re at Marsh Creek Skatepark in Raleigh, North Carolina - the set of Quad Power. It’s large and concrete with many features flowing through the hills of the park. At the time, there was a DIY street section at the top of the landscape with a variety of features for skaters of all levels. This moved into a second concrete street area with a selection of ledges and rails, which flowed into a U-shaped bowl sporting a waterfall/extension wall and a spine. Past the bowl and a few more street features, there’s a huge, three-pocketed pool - think West Coast meets East Coast. It’s nothing like what we have in Jersey, so this park was a treat to visit.

Quad Power was an eventful competition that brought skaters together to showcase talent and style, all while inspiring one another. The event also introduced our team to new rollerskaters and broadened our East Coast network.

Catch the energy and excitement of the Quad Power competition through the memories we’ve preserved below:

Skaters were nonstop shredding the spine and U-bowl in this scenic park.

Full of passion and skill, mixing style with tricks, these skaters threw down epic moves and pumped up the crowd with their talent.

Talk about heat and humidity. Before we left for the trip, we were wishing for dry, warmer skate weather. Well down in North Carolina, they weren’t missing a beat. It felt like summer by mid-April!

Great Sportsmanship

Everyone at Quad Power was supportive of one another, regardless of the competition setting. This is what our rollerskate community is all about!

Quad Power was an impressive contest that brought a large number of roller skaters together from around the East Coast.

The energy was kept high all day long, especially with Dirt on the MC.

The judging decision was difficult with so much talent rolling through the park. Judges Brian Wainwright, OG Quad legend; Caitlin, leader of CIB Raleigh; and Lauren, a local Raleigh skater were hard at work taking note of every skater’s moves.

Bring It Back!

Quad Power was one of the only transition-style quad competitions to go down on the East Coast in five years and it was a great activation for the community. Taking a year off of a large-scale contest, the crew behind the event held a Cash for Tricks style competition in 2025. We hope these photos and memories inspire new skaters on wheels and existing community members to get together with one another and organize from time-to-time.

After being a part of Quad Power in 2024, we hope that the team will breathe new life into the competition, continuing to support and grow the roller skate scene on the East Coast.

P.S. We would be there in a heartbeat! We are always here to support!
