It Takes a Village
Montreal Cup is celebrating its fifth annual year! It's a contest that has only evolved to be bigger and better where the tricks get more wild each year and the support continues to grow. It takes a large group of locals to pull off this massive event. This year, we are honored to be with the crew again and want to give a big shout out to everyone who helps make it possible. Check it out ⬇️
The Before
On the fence about coming to Montreal Cup? Don't be! The locals do a fantastic job at making everyone feel welcome before they even set foot in the city. If you're not acquainted already, make sure to follow @Montreal.Cup on Instagram. If you're thinking of going, send them a DM, so you can be added into a group where we're chatting contest details, travel plans, recommendations and more.
In addition to wrangling the larger skate scene, the team is busy ironing out sponsorship support, working details out with the city for their one-of-a-kind obstacle course, finalizing the schedule of community events and workshops, posting flyers and spreading awareness alongside other prep work. The night before, a large volunteer crew assembles to put together the bank-to-bank course in the streets.
By contest morning, everything is set up for a smooth show.
Unpredictability
Unforeseen events and stuff you can't even make up seems to always go down on event days. From weather changes to injuries, event organizers are continuously buzzing around to make sure everything runs seamlessly for those of us attending the competition.
Worldwide Vibes
The team stays communicative throughout the weekend so everyone remains included. One thing we personally love about this competition is the multilingual aspect. You can most prominently hear French and English throughout the streets, plus a bit of Spanish and any other languages spoken from traveling competitors.
During the event, volunteers are making sure that competitors are signed in and know the schedule, doing a bit of course maintenance, and talking up Montreal Cup to folks passing on the street. Of course, volunteers also need time to shred!

It all comes to a close as the award ceremony takes place and folks roll on over to the afterparty.

If you stick around, on Monday a new tradition has unfolded. For the second year in a row, the locals will lead a street skate mini tour. It's not something to miss, because Montreal is full of unique, waxed up spots.
